Final Project Proposal
Taking into consideration my interests in visual art and writing that provokes thought and emotion (e.g., poems), I will be making a few art pieces that will be tied to a specific text/poem/dialogue of my own design.
For a theme as vast and ever-changing as “identity”, expressing it in words is never easy and so I want to explore it through art and creative writing. Seeing as these forms have been used for centuries to express emotion and concepts larger than any one person, I believe that by exploring identity through these mediums I will be able to look deeper into myself, while also allowing other people to do the same for themselves through my works.
Seeing as I will be doing several visual and written works, the idea was to associate a visual work with a written one and to give the name of either to the pairing. They will all have either the concept or the word identity in them. There will be 3 such pairs of varying mediums that will be staying mostly within the drawing/painting category, colors, and bases (e.g., canvas, paper). This is to represent the way that identity is different and changes from one person to the next, and throughout one’s life; yet how we are all connected by it and can understand one another through it. The project as a whole will be titled ID; The Personal, Social and International way we Present and Identify Ourselves. As for the individual pairs, they will be named Me, A Villain's Monologue, and R S; the specifics of which title goes with which work will be made clear with the presentation of the work themselves.
I have chosen to present my work in this manner because of my personal and possibly professional interest in creative writing and visual arts. The visual aspect is a representation of how we can all relate and will call upon the knowledge I have gathered in my visual art classes. The written component will reflect upon my language classes as well as the ones that focused on writing such as English, journalism and my Arts & Culture courses, among others. This project will demonstrate the skills and knowledge that I have acquired throughout my time learning from and attending these courses in a way that is completely my own.
The works will be made available on my website to view. Further inquires about them will have to be sent to me through the contact information that will also be provided on the website.
